Constipation

Description: 

Constipation results when digested food moves too slowly through the intestines. Optimal transit time is 12 – 24 hours to get an idea of the function of your digestive tract eat either sweet corn or beetroot at teatime and look for the food passing out the following day.

Symptoms: 

Constipation symptoms include straining to have a complete bowel movement, hard stools, infrequent or incomplete bowel movements.

Constipation can also cause sluggishness mentally and physically, fatigue, headaches and achiness.

Possible Causes: 

The most common causes for constipation include poor diet, lack of fibre, not enough fluid, and lack of exercise, imbalance of good and bad bacteria. Other possible causes of constipation include stress, low thyroid function, lactose intolerance, parasites, colon cancer, constipation can occur as a side effect of certain drugs the most common being antacids, diuretics and anesthetics' also the calcium carbonate (chalk) form of calcium and the ferrous sulphate form of iron.
